Shattered Elbow Caregivers Group 130809
PostOp Update 130809: Pretty much a relatively pain-free-ish day calmed with ibuprofen, naps, and a painkiller at bedtime.
Slept a couple hours, then awake for three. Sometime I might have a "normal" sleep routine?
Bethany Schatz phoned to give some boost to the slagging spirits. For every bone fragment they had to put together, that seems to line up with the number of days I am on immobility stay-at-home -- a day for each fragment. I had also received the medical reports for the surgery and recovery, and it was a rather extravagant surgery. No wonder my body is sapped what with all its energies focusing on repairing the elbow. Uff da.
Paul Cook stopped in on his lunch break for a visit. We went for a walk around the building. Yep, I could feel the blood pulsating through my humerus. So, I gave myself a long afternoon nap. Kitty from work stopped by with some stuff I had requested from my desk. Tara Irene Wood paid a visit late in the afternoon. Rebecca Maloney stopped by later in the evening with a hot fudge shake from DQ.
Thank you to each of you for your many texts, instant messages, emails, cards to check in and say howdy. I really do cherish your closeness.
Inspiration and Blessing 130809: Psalm 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.

The official PREOPERATIVE DIAGNOSIS: Left elbow intra-articular comminuted distal humerus fracture with a coronal sheer type component involving the articular surface, 812.40.
PROCEDURE PERFORMED: Open reduction internal fixation of comminuted intra-articular very distal humerus fracture, 245.46.
Then three very, very long paragraphs on the surgery technique, followed by a Code Blue report for being hysterical, delirious, and unresponsive in recovery. Wow, what a day that was.
P.S. There was also this note in the Code Blue report: "One of the patient's friends [ Jackee Rohrich ] has also agreed to stay the night with him and I think this will be helpful."

Lutheran Public Radio has been a great source of comfort for me during my many naps while on home-stay.

Have you ever experienced a pulsating humerus? Yeah, it's not that much gleeful fun; but for the meanwhile as what it is, it is my reality, for whenever I over-exert myself, such as walking to the parking lot and back. Recovery, come to me, soon, pretty please? With sugar on top?

And, I just received a jury summons for Friday, August 30th...

A'yup, it is well confirmed. I will always be indecisive as to which is my favorite fantasy fairy tale, between Princess Bride and Stardust. Both steal my heart.

Late Evening Rambling Rant 130808: I for one have lived many elsewheres, and have returned to North Dakota. As much as some citizens of Bismarck/Mandan complain against Bismarck, and in their minds, its lackings, I will remain in favor of our city and continue to advocate. So proudly and gladly says this Norwegian-American gay Lutheran Christian Democrat living in a German-Russian heteronormative Roman Catholic Republican city. I will state the facts as I experience them; and if you decide that I am complaining, it goes to show how little you know me.
