PostOp Update 130801: Really solid night of sleep, woke up only once. My elbow let me know as much at the 7:00 alarm for the Oxycontin that it was not pleased it did not get its 2 am feeding of hydrocodin. Poor baby. Felt really good yesterday morn, so decided to take a shower, which took an hour, and wiped me out for the day. Kari J. Carlson stopped in at lunch with Dominoes Pizza and fun conversation. Maintenance showed up and fixed the dishwasher, so I got the dishes done. Amber Hill stopped after work to visit and pick up the grocery list. Nancy Schneider, friend from work, stopped by with supper (KFC Mashed Potato Bowls!) and conversation and news from work. Phone visits in the evening with Bethany Schatz (we might take up Fencing together this Fall) and with my NASCAR Brother Mike Eberle. My Sister Connie Bulow left me a message this morning that she and another sister or two will visit tomorrow.
Request List 130801: Ice cube trays dumped and refilled; garbage bag out; plastic recyclables taken down the block; help unload the dishwasher; help walk to the apt office with rent check.
Inspiration and Blessing 130801: Though I am surrounded by troubles, you will protect me [O LORD] from the anger of my enemies. You reach out your hand and the power of you right hand saves me. The LORD will work out his plans for my life -- for your faithful love, O LORD, endures forever. Don't abandon me, for you made me. — Psalm 138:7-8

With the combination of a shattered elbow, anesthesia during surgery, and narcotics to help the pain remain at an enjoyable level, I really need help, but get too afraid that I am asking for too much help.
If you want to find a supper for me, Mary Mitchell started this web site:
http://mealbaby.com/viewregistry/16460075
In addition, in no particular order: presence and company; prayers; hugs; back scratchings; cup of coffee and conversation; positive and uplifting energies; random errand runs; random fridge inspections; help me make a small walk around the parking lot.
Thank you so much!

Pics from Pre-Op, waiting with Jackee...

July 25
Good Morning world. Sent Jackee home, no use for her with a migraine to watch me sleep. Just saw the Doc. Well, it was a mess. Shattered it in all directions in over 20 pieces. Therefore, future movement will be significantly impaired. Off work for 10 days until one of those movement assist brace will be put on. More than likely impact my career. To be discharged later this afternoon if and when pain is under control. Hold me Jesus.

Ok, so I guess I have had some time to ponder some answers to "what do you need" during this recuperation. In no particular order: presence and company; prayers; hugs; back scratchings; help with meals (maybe someone could coordinate a schedule?); cup of coffee and conversation; positive and uplifting energies; random errand runs. Thank you, thank you to those who have provided presence thus far (-;

Wish I could say that it is a good night, but yep, I am in a world of hurt. If anything, it is a dull ache and not the sharp throbbing shooting pain. That is all I have to report here.

TMI Update 130728: discovered how exhausting one handed showering can be. thanks to Paul cook for installing a grabar and a shower hose nozzle extension thingy. found out that I will not be able to trim my nails, wash my right arm pit, or shave my back. who would volunteer to do something like that.

PostOp Update 130729: Slept all right, lots of cold sweats though. Sunday, neighbor Dean brought breakfast and we watched a couple hours on Netflix. Debi Blanc Rogers stopped by with a shower chair and conversations. Amber Hill stopped in for a bit on her return from Minneapolis. Mary Mitchell, who set up the supper web site, stopped by with raw milk and boiled eggs. Thanks y'all!

So, since I was anticipating surgery, hometime, and possible visitors, on our return from Minneapolis, we stopped in Osakis at a Norwegian bakery where I picked up flatbread and lefse to serve my guests.

PostOp Update 130730: fitful night of sleep. I guess when they said keep immobile they meant stay at home. quick ride to work and to bank did me in bad. other highlights of the day: Nancy Hruby and grandson stopped by with treats. Bethany Schatz and daughter gave me a ride to work to drop off Doc excuse skip and pick up paycheck and quick visit. Bethany could tell how quickly wiped out I was. She stayed four a visit, and trimmed my nails. Amanda Bakkedahl dropped in for a visit. David Rohrich brought supper over. Amanda stopped by later again with Season One of the series Game of Thrones. So this week I will be completely homebound. Next week I have an appointment on Monday with the doc and we will see what happens then.

Yes, my legs do work, but my energies quite simply do not. I am discovering how much depletion there is from elbow reconstruction, anesthesia and pain killers. Uff da.

=============================
FYI,ii -- No, you don't need to ask if you can drop in. As always, as ever, the door is open. Come and sit a while.

PostOp Update 130731: Better night of slumber. Still quite wiped out from that trip out in Monday. Amber Hill stopped by at lunch with a roll of packing plastic for wrapping my arm in the shower. Then Nancy Hruby stopped in to drop off supper. Started up the dishwasher, but it quit working; so got a call in to maintenance, letting them know my need for a dishwasher. Later in the afternoon my Aflac representative visited to help me get all that paperwork started. Phone conversation with Bethany Schatz. Psalm 96 -- The Lord The Righteous

Recovery Visual 130731: Getting settled in the recliner -- get the blanket settled at my lap and feet; arrange ice bag and pillow in left corner of chair; two pillows on my lap, one behind my head; start the remote reclining process; get to comfortable spot; arrange left arm and lap pillows; get elbow arm arranged accordingly; blanket all nestled; commence panting; realize you forgot that one item which is out of reach; repeat; collapse in slumber. Whew. Who needs Golds Gym for a cardio workout (-;
