Crunch went the weekend...

One-handed typing here, so I apologize for my typing slower than you are reading this...
So, last week I had posted on Facebook my wish to be kidnapped away for a long weekend anywhere. Friday morning, my cousin June Miller contacted me asking if I could take Monday off from work. She was driving her two daughters, Emma and Jinny and their friend Chloe down to Minneapolis. They all were going to Valley Fair on Saturday evening, and then the twenty-somethings were going to an all-day concert festival on Sunday. I gladly accepted the offer, and made my motel reservations in Bloomington. I hadn't been to Valley Fair in over 25 years!

After work, I made a quick errand to the airport for my cousin Steve, dashed over to Mike's to water his gardens as he is on vacation, a stop at the ATM, and back to the apartment to throw a quick duffel together. Just in time for June and the ladies to pick me up.

First stop was at Pizza Corner in Valley City for supper and lots of laughter. Back on the road, and a stop outside of Moorhead at the Visitors Center. Then on to Little Falls along the Mississippi River where we spent the night at a Super 8. Saturday we decided to tour Little Falls, hit the outlet shops in Albertville, then on to Valley Fair.

Checked out some of the downtown, and then we headed to the dam for some pics. I got a shot of the dam, and asked the ladies to come down and get a shot of them by the river. Emma came down, and I turned to find a better position. Instead, I stepped on a slippery rock and fell. I heard a significant crunch, as if I had shattered my cell phone screen. Looked at it, and it was barely scratched, Then, my left elbow started screaming. I looked at Emma and said that I guess we probably should go the hospital. They all thought it was my leg because of the way I was walking bent over in pain.

So, we punched the hospital into the navigation, found it and checked into the ER. They gave a shot of morphine which was quick, yet short-lived. They then started shooting me with another lethal painkiller and I was fine. Until they shot the five Xrays. One of the shoulder, then two each on the elbow and on the wrist. The Xray tech said it was pretty bad. Needed more painkiller.

The doc reviewed the Xrays and said the best course was to ambulance me to the St. Cloud Trauma Center. I asked about an airlift back to Bismarck. He told the guesstimated price tag. Yeah, let's go to St. Cloud via ambulance. Not knowing how long I would be there or anything, I told June to just continue on with their trip and they could pick me up on their return to Bismarck. Had to do some convincing, but they did.

So, down at St. Cloud they shot me some more after the ambulance ride. Then more Xrays and a CAT scan. The doc reviewed everything, and surgery was definitely needed, but the elbow was too swollen, so I'd have to be discharged and either do surgery in St. Cloud or at home in Bismarck. They gave me the discharge paperwork and a CD of the Xrays and CAT scan. One of the ER nurses advised to not be surprised if they mention joint replacement or amputation. They then put me in a plaster splint and sling, from just above the elbow to my finger tips.

I called June. She had got my motel reservations canceled in Bloomington. I decided to book a room for that night in St. Cloud, and June would come back later that night and then we would return to Minneapolis on Sunday. So, I had supper at the hospital, made reservations at a Super 8, and called a taxi. Taxi came by, had him take me to CVS to fill my prescription, and then to the motel. He did not charge me for the half hour that I was in CVS. The clerk at the motel wanted to cry, so she gave me the "hospital rate" saving over $30. After June dropped the women off in Shakopee, she returned to St. Cloud.

A'yup, it was a very painful and sleepless night. In the morn, June made a motel reservation for us in Eden Prairie. We went out for breakfast, to CVS for some pain supplies, and to TJMaxx for XL short-sleeve button shirts to get over the splint. Then on the road to Minneapolis. We stopped at this eclectic antique boutique gift store house thing June had been following on Facebook. Did not spend enough time there. After that, headed to our motel in Eden Prairie. While I napped, June went shopping at a couple malls in the area. After she came back, we found a Japanese restaurant around the corner. My first ever experience with sukiyaki, and was it ever so good! Later that evening, June went to get Jinny who was staying with us because of her severe feline allergies.

Monday morning, called Mid Dakota clinic and got an appointment with the Bone and Joint Clinic on Tuesday at 1:30. We stopped at a bagel shop for breakfast bagels, then on to Shakopee to pick up Emma and Chloe. They all had a very great time at the band festival. We stopped at Cabela's in Rogers, then The Otter and DQ in Fergus Falls.

Along the way, my cousin Trish called from Bismarck. They are traveling from their home in Washington on to Minneapolis. She had called her son Timothy in Minneapolis to let him know they were going visit me. He told them of this news, so she called to get the story.

Back in Bismarck, we stopped at Schlotzky's for supper before coming home. Uff da. Had to ask the neighbor to come over and open my bedroom window. When he opened their door, he took one look and said, "Oh good grief, what did you do this time, Kevin?!"

So, now write out some bills, find some sleep, to work in the morn (think I will skip the gym), and then the appointment in the Tuesday afternoon. Shew, what's a little adventure to liven up random spontaneity, eh? Thank you June, Emma, Jinny, Chloe for a fun weekend, and for your patient pampering!
